These general terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

By submitting information to us and/or by using our website, you give your consent to all information submitted, including your personal information, which may be processed by the African School of Coffee as described below. If you do not wish to be bound by our privacy policy, you may not access or use this website.


Definitions

The terms “Automatic Anonymous Information” and “AAI” refer to information we collect through this online platform that does not, in and of itself, identify you personally. One example of AAI is your IP address.


The terms “content” and “feedback” refer to all the software and code comprising or used to operate this website or mobile application, and all of the text, photographs, images, illustrations, graphics, sound recordings, video and audio-video clips, and other materials available on this platform.


The terms “African School of Coffee”, “the school”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the African School of Coffee.


The term “Personally Identifiable Information” or “PII” means information about you that could permit one to identify or contact you. Examples of PII include your name, address, and email address.

The term “user-generated content” refers to all of the text, photographs, images, illustrations, graphics, sound recordings, video, audio-video clips, and other material that you post on or through our online platforms using the social networking tools we make available to you and that does not constitute feedback. One way that user-generated content differs from other information you provide, in that once submitted, is made available on our website to others. Examples of user-generated content are information you provide as part of a product review and comments you make in response to a blog post.

The term “platform” refers to the website of the African School of Coffee.


The terms “you” and “your” mean any user of this website or mobile application.

The African School of Coffee does not make any warranties or representations that content and services available from the website and apps shall in all cases be true, correct or free from any errorsThe African School of Coffee shall take all reasonable steps to ensure the quality and accuracy of content available from the website and apps.


Enrolment Requirements

Age Requirement

Most barista courses require participants to be at least 16 years old, but may vary depending on the specific course and location.


Basic Communication Skills

Being able to communicate effectively in the language of instruction is necessary. This is English and/or isiXhosa. This includes listening, speaking, and potentially reading and writing.


Physical Ability

Attendants are required to stand for long periods, lift and carry supplies, and manoeuvre equipment. Basic physical fitness and stamina are beneficial.


No Prior Experience Required

Most basic barista courses are designed for beginners, so no prior experience in coffee making or hospitality is necessary.


Enrollment Fees

Be prepared to pay any enrollment fees associated with the course. Prices can vary depending on the course provider, location and duration of the course.


Cancellations Policy.


  • Cancellation requests must be made in writing and sent to admin@africanschoolofcoffee.org or our WhatsApp business line at +27 63 788 0151.
  • Cancellations made more than 72 hours before the course start date will receive a full refund minus a 10% administration fee.
  • Cancellations made within 72 hours of the course start date are non-refundable.
  • No-shows are not eligible for a refund or rescheduling.
  • Exceptional circumstances, such as medical emergencies or unavoidable travel disruptions, may be considered for waiving the cancellation fee. Relevant documentation is required.
  • Individuals unable to attend a scheduled course may request to reschedule to a future date, subject to availability. A rebooking fee may apply.

Course Refund Policy.

  • Refunds are processed within 14 business days from the date of an approved cancellation
  • Refunds are issued via the original payment method.
  • Courses cancelled by ASC will be fully refunded or rescheduled at the participant’s discretion.
  • Late arrivals exceeding 60 minutes from the scheduled start time will be considered absent and will need to rebook the course for a future date.

Personal Safety

By enrolling in classes at the African School of Coffee, you understand and acknowledge that your safety is of paramount importance. While the school endeavours to provide a safe learning environment, each student is responsible for their own safety during class activities, including but not limited to handling equipment, conducting experiments, and participating in practical sessions. Students must adhere to all safety guidelines, follow instructions provided by instructors, and use proper safety equipment when necessary. By participating in classes, you accept and assume all risks associated with your activities and agree to hold the African School of Coffee harmless from any injuries, damages, or liabilities that may arise from your actions.


Private Property

As a student of the African School of Coffee, you are expected to respect the boundaries of private property at all times. This includes but is not limited to respecting the property of the school itself, as well as any facilities, equipment, or materials provided for your use during classes. Any unauthorised use, damage, or defacement of private property will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action. By enrolling in classes, you agree to uphold the principles of respect and responsibility and to adhere to all rules and regulations regarding the use of private property. Failure to do so may result in termination of enrollment and possible legal consequences.


Personal Property

While attending classes at the African School of Coffee, students are responsible for the safety and security of their personal belongings brought onto the premises. The school cannot be held liable for any loss, theft, or damage to personal property, including but not limited to electronic devices, bags, and other personal items. It is advisable for students to keep their belongings secure at all times and not leave them unattended. By bringing personal property onto the school premises, students acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with doing so and agree to hold the African School of Coffee harmless from any loss or damage incurred.


No Guarantee of Success

Completion of courses offered by the African School of Coffee does not guarantee any specific outcomes, including but not limited to employment, business success, or certification. Success in the coffee industry depends on various factors including individual effort, market conditions, and external factors beyond the control of the African School of Coffee.


Personal Responsibility

It is the responsibility of each student to actively engage in the learning process, seek clarification when needed, and apply the knowledge gained at their discretion. The African School of Coffee is not liable for any consequences resulting from the application or misuse of the information provided in its courses.


No Professional Advice

The information provided in courses offered by the African School of Coffee is intended for educational purposes only and should not be construed as professional advice. Students are encouraged to seek advice for employment-related purposes from qualified professionals regarding specific coffee-related matters.
